The Card Finder quiz is the quickest way to a short list. It is free, has no impact on your credit score and does not ask for personal information. It recommends from the cards we partner with, so a card can appear in the compare tool without appearing in the quiz. If you want to rank every card, use the compare tool instead.
Take the quiz
Choose your reason
On the quiz page, open the menu under “Why are you looking for a new credit card?”, pick an answer and click GET STARTED.
Answer each question
Click Next after each one. The back arrow at the top returns to the last question. Questions that allow more than one answer say how many (up to 3).
See your results
The last question's button reads See Results. You get a summary of your answers and up to five cards, with the note “Showing top” and the number found, “sorted by best match”. If nothing fits you see “No matching cards found” and a Start Over button.
What your answers change
Your reason decides which questions you get. Choose yours below.
- Credit score and annual income: cards whose score or income requirement you wouldn't meet are left out. Only points cards are considered.
- Travel type: if you choose international travel, the results always include a card with no foreign transaction fees.
- Airline or hotel preference: your airline or hotel is treated as where your travel spending goes: most of it (80%) if you name one, split evenly if you name both.
- Travel rewards priority: with Travel perks, the list keeps cards that have at least one perk you picked (if none do, it shows all) and puts the cards with the most matching perks first. With the other answers cards are ranked by first-year value.
- Desired travel perks: airport lounge access, free checked bags, priority boarding, no foreign transaction fees and travel insurance. Pick up to 3.
- Spending categories and monthly spending: see the spending box below.
- Credit score and annual income: same as travel. Only cash back cards are considered.
- Cash back structure and Rogers, Fido or Shaw customer: if you say Yes to Rogers and want flat-rate cash back, the quiz skips the spending categories question. Saying Yes to Rogers values the Rogers cards with their boosted rewards.
- Annual fee: No keeps only cards with no annual fee. Yes, if it's worth it keeps them all.
- Ranking: by first-year value on the spending you entered.
- Current bank: the institution that holds the balance. Its own cards are left out, since you can't transfer a balance to the same issuer.
- Balance transfer preference: only cards with a promotional balance transfer offer are shown. Choose the longest promotional period and the longest ones come first. Choose lowest balance transfer fee and cards are ordered by their lowest promotional rate first.
- How you will pay: a lower interest rate puts the cards with the lowest purchase interest first. Paying it off at once and maximizing the welcome bonus ranks cards by first-year value.
- Welcome bonus type: cash back, travel or whichever is worth more. The list is spread across at least three institutions when it can be.
- Annual income and business cards: income removes cards you wouldn't qualify for. Business cards only appear if you choose Yes, include business cards.
- Credit building goal: new to credit, or building on an existing history. New to credit then asks if you are a full-time student.
- Student: students see student cards first, then the lowest annual fee. Everyone else sees cards for a poor score (not student or prepaid cards), lowest annual fee first.
- Annual fee: No keeps only cards with no annual fee.
- Care about rewards: Yes asks for your monthly spending so each card can show an estimate. It does not change the order, which stays by fee.
The credit score question has six answers, from Excellent (760+) down to Poor (300 to 559), plus Not sure. Choosing Poor sends you down the credit building path whatever your reason was.
