TD Rewards Program Breakdown
Although they’re particularly valuable when redeemed towards travel (especially Expedia For TD bookings), TD Rewards are actually quite flexible overall.
Just how valuable? TD Rewards points are worth up to 0.5 cents each when you book through Expedia For TD, where 200 points = $1. That makes 10,000 points worth up to $50, and 100,000 points worth up to $500. The exact value of your TD Rewards points, of course, depends on how you redeem them.
On top of every trip, earners can use their points to fund everything from shopping sprees to bill payments to their morning cup of coffee.

If you’re willing to pay top-dollar for the best TD Rewards credit card on offer, check out the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card.
Sure, the annual fee is the steepest out of the three we’ll mention, but this cost accounts for plenty of point-potential, extensive insurance coverage, and valuable added benefits – plus this fee is completely waived for the first year of membership!
Starting with the point-potential, cardholders will be pleased to earn tons of TD Rewards points on travel booked online through Expedia for TD, followed by solid points per dollar spent on eligible restaurant and grocery purchases, decent points per dollar spent on eligible recurring bill payments, and an above-average base-rate on all other eligible purchases.
With 13 insurance categories, the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card makes it easy to travel with, well, ease. Take advantage of important protections like trip interruption and trip cancellation insurance, hotel burglary insurance, plus emergency medical coverages.
As far as benefits go, this card is equipped with perks like concierge services, Troon Rewards Golf benefits, extra Stars and Aeroplan points at participating Starbucks stores, car rental discounts at Avis and Budget locations, an annual birthday bonus of additional points, and an annual TD Travel Credit when you book through Expedia for TD.
On top of the annual fee, you’ll also need to meet some annual income requirements to qualify for the card, so keep that in mind when filling out your application.
Overall, the TD First Class Travel Card should be your first choice if you’re looking to invest in the best and most lucrative TD Rewards credit card on the Canadian market – complete with competitive point-potential, a long list of insurance categories, and amazing perks.
The TD Platinum Travel Visa* Card is a solid choice for individuals looking for travel rewards and flexibility without a high annual fee. Its first-year fee waiver, valuable welcome bonus, and comprehensive insurance package make it a strong contender in the travel card category. However, the lower point value and lack of trip cancellation insurance may be a drawback for frequent travelers.

Looking to spend a little less annually? Or perhaps you were hoping to avoid annual income requirements altogether. Either way, you can swap the TD First Class Travel Card for the TD Platinum Travel Visa Card instead.
This alternative option offers the same specialized earn categories (travel booked through Expedia for TD, groceries, dining, and recurring bill payments), the only difference is that the reward rates per earn category are slightly lower overall – even the base rate on all other eligible purchases.
The coverage on this card is also less extensive as it misses out on trip interruption and trip cancellation insurance, not to mention emergency medical coverages.
While both contenders offer car rental discounts at Avis and Budget locations, plus extra Stars and Aeroplan points at participating Starbucks stores, the TD Platinum Travel Visa Card lacks valuable perks like that annual birthday bonus and Expedia for TD travel credit.
Ultimately, the TD Platinum Travel Visa Card is a good option for those who want to save on annual fees and avoid annual income requirements, as long as they’re content with compromising on point-potential, coverage, and perks.
The TD Rewards Visa Card* is a great choice for individuals looking for a no-fee card with moderate rewards. It offers solid perks like mobile device insurance and flexible rewards redeemable for travel, gift cards, and more. However, the lower point value and limited earning potential on everyday purchases may not appeal to frequent spenders looking for maximum rewards.
Pros
No annual fee
Strong rewards
Mobile device insurance
Car rental discounts
Cons

Let’s say you want to avoid annual income requirements and annual fees. In that case, take a look at the TD Rewards Visa Card.
As to be expected, this option will earn you the least amount of TD Rewards on shared specialized categories (travel booked through Expedia for TD, groceries, dining, and recurring bill payments).
Like the TD Platinum Travel Visa Card, the TD Rewards Visa Card includes car rental discounts at Avis and Budget Rent A Car locations, plus extra Stars and Aeroplan points at participating Starbucks stores.
All in all, this contender is fit for budget-conscious cardholders who are still looking to get their hands on some TD Rewards points – without many added perks.
So, how many TD Rewards points do you earn per dollar? On the three personal cards above, it ranges from 1 to 8 points per $1 spent, depending on the card and spending category. Flip that around, and it takes 200 TD Rewards points to equal $1 when you book through Expedia for TD – no matter which of these cards the points came from.
Whichever card you choose, you’ll be earning the same TD Rewards points (sometimes called TD travel points), and they’re worth the same when you redeem them. What changes is how many points you earn per dollar spent:

If you’re still interested in learning more about these redemption options (even after carefully reviewing the table), stick around.
Here’s each redemption category in more depth:
For the best value for your points, redeem your TD Rewards with your TD Rewards credit card online through Expedia for TD. You can choose whether you’d like to use your points to cover the total cost of your travel arrangements, or whether you’d like to split the cost between points and cash.
Every 200 points is worth $1 towards your booking. For example, a $400 flight would cost 80,000 TD Rewards points, while 100,000 points would cover $500 worth of travel.
Let’s say you didn't find what you were looking for through Expedia for TD. In that case, you can still extract some value from your TD Rewards points by paying for nearly any travel expense with points – anything from transportation to accommodations to activities.
This travel category allows you to book arrangements through multiple travel agencies or websites.
When doing so, 250 points will be equal to $1 in travel savings for the first $1,200 of any “Book Any Way” travel redemption rewards. Any expenses beyond $1,200 will be subject to a rate of 200 points = $1 in travel savings, optimizing this category even further.
For example, a $2,000 trip booked elsewhere would cost 460,000 points (300,000 points for the first $1,200, plus 160,000 points for the remaining $800), compared to 400,000 points through Expedia for TD.
To request to redeem points for eligible bookings, simply wait until your travel transaction is posted to your account and either call customer service or make the request through your TD Rewards account within 90 days. To make the request online, select the “Redeem” tab followed by “Book Any Way Travel” to input the necessary information about the transaction, then hit submit. Once your request is approved, you’ll receive a statement credit for the cost of the eligible travel expense(s).
Still studying? Luckily, you can redeem your TD Rewards points towards tuition costs or student loans for higher education at more than 100 participating institutions.
To make this type of redemption, login to your TD Rewards account and select the HigherEdPoints option.
We’ve all probably turned to Amazon at some point for a last-minute, obscure, or miscellaneous purchase.
Since Amazon is such a popular shopping platform, it’s convenient that cardholders can also use their TD Rewards points to pay for the products they purchase on Amazon.ca.
The process is pretty simple. You can apply TD Rewards instantly at checkout and use as many points as you desire to cover the total or partial cost of your cart.
303 TD Rewards points is the equivalent to $1 through Amazon.ca, effectively providing a 0.33 cpp value on this redemption type.
In other words, 10,000 TD Rewards points are worth about $33 on Amazon.ca, and 100,000 points are worth about $330. To get started, link your TD Rewards credit card to your Amazon.ca account through Amazon’s Shop with Points program.
For quick math, 1,000 TD Rewards points are worth about $3.30 on Amazon.ca, compared with $5 through Expedia for TD.
Need help paying off your credit card balance? TD Rewards can remedy this issue as well.
Simply log into your TD Rewards account and select the “Pay With Rewards” option to request a redemption towards an eligible transaction made on your TD Rewards credit card. Afterwards, you'll need to wait about 5-7 business days for the request to be processed. Once processed, you’ll receive a statement credit to your account to cover the eligible cost.
Statement credits are redeemed at 400 points per $1, so 10,000 points = $25 and 100,000 points = $250. It’s the most straightforward way to turn your points into cash, but you’ll get half the value you would through Expedia for TD.
If you’re looking to gift your points in gift cards, the TD catalogue has tons of options to choose from.
Browse brands like:
Amazon
Best Buy
Cineplex
Domino’s Pizza
Esso and Mobil
Golf Town
Indigo
Sobeys
Sephora
The Home Depot and more
The amount of points you’ll need to put towards the redemption will all depend on the value of the gift card itself. On average, each redemption rate holds the same cent-per-point value of 0.25.
To sift through your options, visit the TD Rewards website and select “Gift Cards” from the drop-down menu. Once you find a card you like, login to add it to your cart.
Typically, the exact cent-per-point value of your purchase will depend on the product you're looking to redeem points towards.
To calculate your cent-per-point value on a specific product, simply divide the value of the product by the amount of points required for the redemption, then multiply that result by 100.
There’s one redemption category with a unique redemption rate. Instead of using the basic cent-per-point system, when you redeem your TD Rewards towards Starbucks purchases, you’re using a Star-per-point system.
Ultimately, cardholders will receive 0.1 Star per TD Reward point in this transaction.
Based on Starbucks’ Rewards system:
25 Stars (so 250 TD Rewards points) can get you a customized drink
100 Stars (or 1000 transferred TD Rewards points) can easily become an iced coffee, bag of chips, or flaky croissant
200 Stars (2000 TD Rewards points) can turn into a handcrafted drink, breakfast sandwich, snackbox or oatmeal
300 Stars (or 3000 TD Rewards points) gets you a lunch sandwich or take-home coffee bag
Finally, 400 Stars (or 4000 TD Rewards points) can transform into merchandise, like signature reusable cups and tumblers, at a value of up to $20
To convert your TD Rewards Points into Stars, link your TD Rewards credit card to your Starbucks Rewards account.

What’s the Best Way to Optimize Your TD Rewards Points?
As you can probably conclude based on the TD Rewards Redemption table, the most optimal redemption option for your TD Rewards is to apply them towards travel booked through Expedia for TD.
Likewise, you can get valuable cent-per-point return on travel bookings made outside of Expedia for TD, especially on bookings that exceed $1,200 (turning the remaining redemption from a 0.4 cpp value to a 0.5 cpp value).
Keep in mind that TD Rewards points can’t be transferred to Aeroplan or any other airline program, so the redemption options above are the only ways to use them.
Are TD Rewards Points Worth it?
Expanding upon the previous section, TD Rewards points are especially worth it for frequent travellers – specifically those who book through Expedia for TD or those who plan on making redemptions on other bookings over $1,200.
While the other categories in education, retail, and cash aren’t quite as lucrative as the travel options, they still offer cardholders some flexibility in between trips or when they want to change things up.
