How do I Calculate a Product’s Point Value?
Since products vary, so do point values. With this in mind, rather than give you an unreliable range of values, we’ll teach you how to calculate a product’s point value instead.
To decipher how much your points are worth depending on the product, simply divide the price of the product by the amount of points necessary to cover the cost, then multiply that value by 100.
For example, if a pair of sunglasses in the Rewards Catalogue costs $120 CAD and you need 13,000 points to cover that cost, then the value of your MBNA points in this particular case is about 0.9 cpp.
Whether you want to use your points to put cash back into your bank account or you want to pay your points forward by donating them to charity, the MBNA Rewards Program has you covered.
To trade points for cash, you can either call the MBNA Rewards Centre or visit the MBNA website and log into your account. Once signed in, hit “Manage Rewards” and select “Cashback and Charitable Donations.” From here, decide whether you want to turn your MBNA points into a credit on your credit card balance, deposit them into your personal chequing account, or donate their value to partnered charity organizations. As of now, participating charities include the Canadian Cancer Society, the United Way of Canada, and the Children’s Wish Foundation.
Whether you’re choosing to redeem your points towards a statement credit or charitable donation, note that the value of your MBNA Rewards points will depend on which MBNA Rewards Credit Card you have.
So, What’s the Best Way to Optimize my MBNA Rewards Points?
Based on the values plugged into the above redemption tables, the best way to optimize your MBNA Rewards points is to redeem your points towards MBNA Travel. This redemption category offers a point value of 1 cpp, which is the most consistently high cent-per-point value available through this rewards program.
Of course, sometimes, there may be some redemption options within other redemption categories that have the potential to provide better point values. For example, certain merchandise or gift cards could accumulate a higher cent-per-point value, but these values are far less dependable by comparison.
So, how much are MBNA Rewards points worth? Using the values above, 10,000 points get you about $100 in travel credit (1 cpp), about $98 in gift cards (0.98 cpp), about $80 in merchandise (0.8 cpp), and between about $50 and $83 in cash (0.5 – 0.83 cpp, depending on your card).
Are MBNA Rewards Worth it?
Whether you’re an avid traveller or a savvy shopper, the MBNA Rewards program will provide you with plenty of flexible redemption options.
Ultimately though, you’re going to consistently squeeze the most value out of your MBNA Rewards points if you redeem them towards eligible travel.
Sometimes, however, you may even snag better point values through merchandise or gift card redemptions – so keep an eye out for these exclusive opportunities!
