Our take

BMO® Ascend World Elite®* Business Mastercard®*

BMO’s strongest business points card, with 4x on gas, office supplies, and telecom — categories where most businesses naturally spend. That translates to roughly 2.7% return in those categories, which is competitive. The welcome bonus of up to 100,000 points (~$670 value) and first-year fee rebate make the first year especially strong. You also get airport lounge access and solid travel insurance. The weak spot is the 1.5x base rate on everything else and the annual spending caps on bonus categories. At $149/year, it works well for businesses that spend meaningfully on fuel, supplies, and phone/internet. Less compelling if your spending is spread across categories this card doesn’t bonus.

  • Impressive optimization
  • Generous welcome bonus
  • First-year fee rebate
  • Airport lounge access
  • Comprehensive coverage
  • Shell fuel discounts
  • Additional employee cards
  • High annual fee
  • Low base earn rate
  • Annual spending caps
  • High income requirements
  • Low point values
  • Additional cardholder fees
  • Limited bonus categories

CIBC Aventura® Visa* Card for Business

If your business flies Air Canada regularly, this card pays for itself quickly. You get 2x Aeroplan points across a broad set of categories — travel, dining, shipping, telecom — plus tangible perks like free checked bags and Maple Leaf Lounge guest passes. The welcome offer of up to 75,000 points is generous, and the first-year fee is rebated. The catch: bonus earning is capped at $80,000 in annual purchases across the entire account, and the card’s value drops sharply if you don’t redeem through Aeroplan. Not the right pick for businesses that want cashback simplicity or fly with multiple airlines.

  • First-year annual fee rebate
  • Welcome offer up to 75,000 Aeroplan points
  • Free first checked bag for the cardholder + companions
  • Up to 4 Maple Leaf Lounge one-time guest passes per year (earned via spend)
  • $180 annual fee
  • Best value is for Air Canada / Aeroplan loyalists
  • Bonus earning capped at $80,000 annual spend
  • Welcome bonus requires significant spend to maximize ($40,000 in year one)
  • Not a simple “cash back” style card for businesses that want easy redemption

9CIBC Rewards Program clients may “transfer,” which means move, the Aventura points earned from eligible Aventura credit card accounts, where they are the primary cardholder or Rewards Officer. Transferring Points can be done between Aventura credit cards through the CIBC Rewards Centre or by calling 1-888-232-5656. Authorized Users cannot perform points transfer transactions, but will be able to view any points transfer activity on the Primary’s account in their account history. Points entered must be positive and within the minimum of 1 and the maximum of total points available in the account, at the time of performing points transfers. The Credit Card Accounts that you wish to transfer points between must be in good standing.

10Aventura Points can be redeemed for up to 100% of the cost of airfare as well as (if you have sufficient points) for taxes and other charges on airfare purchased through the CIBC Rewards Centre. You must book all flights through the CIBC Rewards Centre. Some taxes and other charges may be collected locally or when you are travelling, and cannot be prepaid. 11Insurance coverage(s) included with CIBC credit cards are underwritten by Belair Insurance Company Inc. You may contact the insurer at 1-866-363-3338 in Canada and the U.S. or collect from elsewhere at 905-403-3338 or visit cibc.client.insure. Different cards will have different coverage(s). To learn about which coverage(s) are included with a specific card, and important information regarding coverage eligibility requirements, benefits, limitations and exclusions, review the Certificate(s) of Insurance in your card package and CIBC Agreements and Insurance. Some insurance coverage(s) require purchase(s), car rentals, common carrier fares, accommodations and other trip costs to be charged to the card, or be for business purposes, to activate coverage. Other conditions may also apply. Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage Insurance (CLDI) is available for a rental period of up to 48 days for rental vehicles with a MSRP of up to $85,000 CAD and not otherwise excluded from coverage. The full cost of the rental must be charged to the card and the rental agency’s Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) must be declined. CLDI provides coverage up to the actual cash value (ACV) of the rental vehicle as defined in your Certificate of Insurance. Note that some rental agencies may assess their damages at an amount greater than the ACV of the rental vehicle and you may be liable to them for the difference. Before declining the rental agency's CDW or LDW, you should read carefully and compare the terms of the rental agreement, the CLDI Certificate of Insurance in your card package and any other insurance you own to decide which coverage best meets your protection needs. Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Insurance may not cover certain health/medical conditions that are not stable before your trip. Certain coverages are “excess insurance” (all other sources of insurance and recovery must be exhausted before coverage is available).

12CIBC Travel Insurance is underwritten by member companies of The Co-operators, and is administered by TIC Travel Insurance Coordinators Ltd. No insurance is payable for any pre-existing condition unless you have applied and qualified for pre-existing condition coverage and received a Guarantee of Coverage from the insurer. A detailed summary of the terms, conditions, limitations, exclusions and other provisions are contained in the Certificate of Insurance, which you receive upon purchase.
