Is this card worth it?
The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Platinum Card* is a solid option for individuals who frequently fly with Air Canada and want a low-fee entry into the Aeroplan rewards program. With a first-year fee waiver, 20,000-point welcome bonus, and 12 types of insurance, it offers good value for occasional travelers. However, if you want broader reward options or higher earnings on non-Air Canada purchases, it may not be the best fit.
Is this card worth it?
We actually don't recommend this card much. For an annual fee, the rewards earned are very mediocre, and the benefit coverage leaves much to be desired. The only notable benefit is the roadside assistance, which can be covered by an alternative, better credit card.
Pros
- Up to 20,000 Aeroplan Points welcome bonus.
- Earn 1 point per $1 on gas, groceries, and Air Canada purchases.
- Preferred Pricing on Aeroplan flight rewards.
- Includes 12 types of insurance for added travel protection.
Pros
- The roadside assistance benefit is nice.
Cons
- Rewards value is best redeemed for Air Canada flights.
- Lower points earning rate of 1 point per $1.50 on other purchases.
Cons
- Rewards have a low base reward rate for purchases in non-categorized categories and don't include restaurant purchases, which is a very important reward category.
- The travel insurance coverage is very basic for a card that has an annual fee.
