If you are a frequent Air Canada traveler, having an Aeroplan card for perks like free checked bags and priority service can be very beneficial. Many financial institutions offer Aeroplan cards, but I don't believe the American Express version is the best one. Opting for another option might be better. However, the Amex card does have a very large sign-up bonus, making it a great choice for those specifically seeking that.

With 2 points per $1 spent on Air Canada purchases and free checked baggage on every flight, this card offers significant value for those who travel often. Additionally, the extensive travel insurance and unlimited Maple Leaf lounge access make it a solid choice for high-income individuals looking for convenience and protection during their travels. However, the high annual fee and income requirements mean it's best suited for those who can take full advantage of its Air Canada-specific benefits.

If you travel a lot throughout the year with Air Canada, the benefits of this card can significantly enhance your experience. It can help you achieve the next status level with Aeroplan and provide a better airport experience, therefore it can be worth the price tag. However, if you don't frequently fly with Air Canada, the benefits may not justify the card's expensive price tag.

If you’re a frequent Air Canada flyer looking for solid Aeroplan point-potential, premium travel perks, and extensive travel coverage, then the American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card, otherwise known as one of the best Aeroplan credit cards in Canada, is for you.
While this card comes with a high annual fee, it can ultimately be offset in value through perks like unlimited access to Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada Cafes, priority travel perks, and free first checked bags. Discover more in our American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card Review.

If you're a frequent traveler, the Platinum card is an excellent choice. It's highly recommended for its extensive travel benefits, including unlimited lounge access for you and a guest at the American Express Lounge collection, making it the best card for lounge access in Canada. The card also offers unique perks not commonly found with other Canadian cards, such as status upgrades at Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton, dining and travel credits, concierge service, airport benefits, Nexus application reimbursement, and more. These benefits can more than offset the annual fee. However, if you don't travel often or are mainly looking for a card that maximizes rewards, this card may not be the best option for you.

All the luxury a credit card could ask for, plated in platinum. The American Express Platinum Card offers the most luxurious perks out of all other credit cards in Canada, which is fitting since it’s also one of the most expensive cards on this list.
Overall, you’re paying for premium benefits, including hundreds of dollars in annual travel and dining credits and a long list of insurance coverage. If you liked the idea of lounge access in the last section, you won’t want to miss this card’s impressive unlimited access to over 1,300 airport lounges across the globe. Read all about it in our Amex Platinum Card Review.

The CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card collects a decent amount of Aeroplan points on Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations purchases, plus gas, groceries, travel, and dining.
Compared to the Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card, this card's free access to Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada Cafes is limited annually, there are also fewer included benefits overall. That said, the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card offers better coverage, including additional protections like mobile device insurance and emergency medical over 65 insurance. Just watch out for those high annual income requirements. Get all the details in our CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card Review.

Also part of the Aeroplan family, the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card stands out primarily for its extensive perks, including unlimited access to Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada Cafes, plus some complimentary visits to Dragon Pass airport lounges. It also has better insurance coverage than the Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card, but not quite as much as the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card.
Like the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card, the point-potential on this card isn't as lucrative as the Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card, but you can boost earning potential by purchasing from Aeroplan partners and through the Aeroplan eStore. Still, this contender comes with some high annual income requirements on top of its high annual fee. Find out more through our TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card Review.

The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege Card is a metal credit card worth mentioning when it comes to travel rewards, perks, and coverage. This card specializes specifically in Aventura points. As a CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege cardholder, you can earn high-value points per dollar spent on travel and other popular categories like gas and groceries. Not to mention, an annual travel credit accompanied by complimentary airport lounge passes and discounts on car rentals.
The only drawbacks are the high annual income requirements and the annual fee that falls on the higher end of the spectrum. Unpack more in our CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege Card Review.
Typically, a metal credit card is coated in some type of metal alloy, usually stainless steel or titanium. This type of coating often covers a premium-tier credit card, the kind that comes with exclusive perks and high annual fees.
Regardless of its sleek exterior, a metal credit card functions like a plastic credit card.
To get your hands on a metal credit card in Canada, you'll need to apply for a premium credit card the same way you would apply for any other credit card. However, some metal credit cards might have some stricter requirements, like higher annual income requirements. You'll also want to be prepared to pay a higher annual fee to account for all the luxurious perks tucked inside.
If you're looking for premium perks, then metal credit cards are superior to plastic credit cards. That said, you'll only make your metal credit card worthwhile if you intend on using every perk to its full potential, that's how you offset the card's high annual fee.
If you don't intend on using every perk provided by a metal credit card, then it's best to stick with a plastic, lower-tier alternative that complements your spending habits.
A metal credit card is worth it if you find that you’ll be taking enough advantage of the rewards and benefits to make up for the cost of the annual fee. Luckily, annual fees among metal cards do have some variation, so you can pick the perks and price point that work for you.
Since metal credit cards are considered premium credit cards, you will need at least a “good” credit score to apply. This is a credit score of around 660, depending on the card issuer. Some metal credit cards may require a higher score.
The best way to properly dispose of a metal credit card is to return it to the associated issuer. If your issuer has physical branches, you can stop by to drop off your card; otherwise, you may need to mail it back using provided or requested postage-paid packaging.
As a last resort, destroy the card by cutting it up with appropriate tools.
American Express, BMO, CIBC, and TD all offer metal credit cards in Canada. You’ll see metal cards from each of these companies included in our list above.
