Frequently Asked Questions
After the age of 65, tons of travel credit cards revoke coverage or shorten it drastically. Having a credit card with emergency medical over 65 insurance allows senior travellers to explore the world with peace of mind knowing that hospital stays, ambulance services, prescriptions, or return airfare may be covered.
The Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite Privilege Card and the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card both stand out, offering up to $5 million in emergency medical insurance for seniors, with coverage lasting a maximum of 10 days. That said, these premium credit cards come with higher annual fees, which is why the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite + Card might be the best overall option.
There sure is! The Rogers World Elite Mastercard is a no-fee contender that offers emergency medical over 65 insurance for up to $1 million for trips of up to 3 days. This makes the card ideal for quick getaways, but note that coverage stops after age 75 and you’ll need a high income to qualify.
Some cards, like the Meridian Visa Infinite Travel Rewards Card, the Meridian Visa Infinite Cash Back Card, National Bank World Elite Mastercard, and Desjardins Odyssey World Elite Mastercard cover seniors ages 65-74 for up to 15 days per trip. However, once you turn 75, you are no longer covered for emergency medical services by these credit cards.
